Jorian Charlton is a portrait photographer based in Toronto. Her work focuses on Jamaican-Canadian culture through her personal experiences, highlighting beauty and style when it comes to contemporary modes of black representation. She pursues reflections of identity and diasporic relationships to homeland, while her poetic approach to these themes characterizes her method of visual storytelling. She is a graduate of the Bachelor of Photography program at Sheridan College.

Untitled is part of a larger photo series by Jorian Charlton, addressing themes of identity and representation while maintaining elements of spontaneity and play. These photographs exemplify Jorian’s ability to bring viewers up close and personal with her subjects by placing an emphasis on the collaborative nature of her photography process. Featuring model Angaer, Untitled was arranged via social media and produced in Jorian’s living room at the height of COVID-19 alongside photo assistant Joshua Rille, stylist Georgia Groom, makeup artist Mila Victoria, and hairstylists Chanel Croker and D’Andra Morris. Jorian’s work is part of a larger conversation of Toronto-based artists reframing fixed notions of identity.
